Build a working Shaduf STEAM Mini Project
In this hands-on Ancient Egypt project, pupils explore farming and irrigation by designing, building, and testing a working 3D shaduf inspired by Ancient Egyptian farmers.
WHY use this resource?
Engage students in learning about Ancient Egyptian farming and irrigation through a hands-on, project-based STEAM history challenge that brings early engineering and problem-solving to life.
HOW does it work?
Using the CREATE framework, students explore how the Nile supported farming, recall key vocabulary and systems, experiment with different frame designs, and design, build, and test a working 3D shaduf. Pupils then explain how their design lifts water and evaluate which structure works best.
